Multi Manager Quantitative Equity Analyst

Would you like to contribute to affordable pensions for the current and coming generations? We offer an analyst position in APG’s quantitative equity Multi Manager team. The team manages an equity portfolio of external and internal quantitative managers. You will work closely together with two senior portfolio managers on portfolio construction and the selection & monitoring of the Investment Managers. Your work will directly contribute to the performance and sustainability profile of the equity investment portfolio.

You will come to work in APG’s Multi-Manager Quantitative Equity team in Amsterdam. Together with the team you are responsible for the portfolio construction and the selection & monitoring of a portfolio of Investment Managers. The team managing an optimal portfolio of complementary long only quantitative investment strategies with assets under management over EUR 10 billion We belief that innovative investment strategies based on empirical evidence with a sound economic rationale contribute to an optimal risk return profile of a portfolio. It is up to you to analyze the result of the portfolio and each Investment Manager. You will use your quantitative skills to form your opinion which is checked and enriched by interaction with the Investment Managers and the team. You will participate in meetings with the Investment Managers at our offices and you will also participate in on site visits to the Investment Managers. You will also be involved in the day-to-day management of the portfolio which includes instructing external managers and providing them guidance. You like to work in a cooperative team and you are able to clearly communicate your work in English to the team.

You will work in APG’s quantitative equity department within the business unit Asset Management. We have been engaging on an ambitious multi-year digitalization journey, and need talent to drive that further.


What are we looking for?

  • A master’s degree in (quantitative) finance, mathematics, data science or related fields;
  • 3-5 years of working experience;
  • A clear interest in financial markets and sustainable investments;
  • Analytical skills in combination with a critical but practical mindset;
  • Affinity and experience with programming (preferably Matlab);
  • A digital mindset;
  • Ability to handle various situations, pro-active and hands-on, getting things done;
  • You like to interact with the external managers;
  • International orientation and willingness to travel;
  • You have the skill-set and the ambition to become a portfolio manager in time.

Which responsibilities will you get?

  • Production and development of reports used to analyze the results of the Investment Mangers;
  • Collaborate with the portfolio managers in research on the Investment Managers in the portfolio. Support them in writing reviews and feedbacks;
  • Support the portfolio managers in their day-to-day operations, including activities such as the allocation process, instructing managers, report writing, and manager monitoring;
  • Work with other teams in the organization among others: Risk Management, Fiduciary Management, Operational Due Diligence,  Responsible Investing, IT and Operations;
  • Work closely together with the Portfolio Managers during a selection process for new Investment Managers;
  • Stay updated on the universe of Investment Managers and quantitative equity developments in academia and industry;
  • Contribute on digitalization efforts within the team.
