Senior Strategist – Strategic Portfolio Construction

Then you may be the Senior Investment Strategist that we are looking for.
As Senior Strategist you will join the Economics & Strategic Asset Allocation (ESAA) team, part of the Fiduciary department within APG Asset Management. Your primary function will be to advise APG’s clients (large pension funds) independently on their strategic portfolio construction and investment policies. Your advice will consist of memo’s, presentations and verbal communication to the executive offices, advisory committees, and boards of the pension funds. At the same time you will be required to write some of the clients’ most important policy documents related to strategic asset allocation and portfolio construction. In your role you will be expected to acquire overall knowledge of all the aspects of one or more clients’ investment policies and to be able to see the importance of and the connections between different topics relevant for that client.
Some of the activities involved are:
The ESAA team is part of Strategic Portfolio Advice (SPA) with the Fiduciary department. SPA is responsible for the Strategic Asset Allocation advice to pension fund clients. This includes for example the strategic investment plans, ALM studies but also a range of other services such as an overview and segmentation of investment categories, but also studies on monetary policy and specific market developments. Within SPA, the you will work closely with the teams of ALM, Research and your other colleagues within ESAA focused on medium to longer term developments in the economy and financial markets.
- Writing strategic investment policies;
- Writing annual investment plans;
- Participation in ALM-studies;
- Strategic and annual portfolio reviews;
- Writing memo’s on ad hoc issues;
- Participation in meetings of the clients’ advisory committee and board;
- Provide advice on topics to members of the executive offices.
You will be based in Amsterdam.
The Senior Investment Strategist we are looking for is numerate, articulate and of an inquisitive mindset. You have experience in building relations and engaging with colleagues across the breadth of the organization and clients. You show a strong team spirit combined with an ability to work independently on a wide range of projects simultaneously.
We ask for:
- At least 8 years of practical experience in portfolio construction, institutional advisory or portfolio management;
- A deep understanding of asset class behavior and risk mitigation for institutional clients;
- A keen understanding of the economy and financial markets and the impact on the construction of strategic portfolios;
- Ability to translate complicated matters into advice that is understandable to pension funds board members;
- Capacity to develop your role to innovate, to adapt to rapidly evolving needs, and to implement change;
- Perfect fluency in Dutch (both verbal and written) and a good command of English (essential).
