APG is an international organization with its head office in Heerlen. In addition, we also maintain offices in Amsterdam, Brussels, New York and Hong Kong. As a global player on the assets market, it is of strategic importance to our Asset Management department to be present on the American and Asian assets markets. This enables us to maintain our networks and closely monitor developments.
We provide pension administration and pension communication services from Heerlen. A large part of the ICT department is located here, as well as the Asset Management back-office. Heerlen is located in the heart of the Euro region, close to Germany and Belgium with key cities such as Cologne, Düsseldorf, Antwerp and Brussels. Furthermore, Heerlen is part of Parkstad, a region that offers many cultural, sporting and recreational opportunities. APG’s modern head office makes optimal use of daylight and is fitted up with sustainable technologies and ergonomic furniture. The office is easily accessible by car as well as public transportation.
The Symphony building along the Zuidas in Amsterdam is the front office of our Asset Management department. Investment specialists, traders, portfolio managers, researchers, risk controllers and analysts work here in the international financial business center, at a walking distance from the Amsterdam Zuid train station and from the metro and tram.
APG is also located at Basisweg in a striking building that consists of a ring of eight office towers linked together around a large enclosed garden. The building is located in the Teleport Amsterdam office area, a large office and business park in close proximity to the Sloterdijk train station. The office is easily accessible by car as well as public transportation and has ample parking space.
APG has an office in the European center of Brussels, close to the European Council, the European Parliament, the European Commission and the embassies of member states. The interests of the Dutch pension system and APG’s commissioning pension funds are brought to the attention of European policymakers from our office here. These lobbying activities are directed by the APG Corporate Strategy and Policy Directorate.
APG Asset Management US Inc. is located in the Chrysler Complex in Manhattan. With its 319 meter height, the Chrysler Building dominates the 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue intersection in the eastern part of Manhattan. We monitor the financial developments in this part of the world from this office. The financial specialists who work here are primarily occupied with investments in the area of innovation, ‘Fixed Income’ and ‘Alternative Investments’. New Holland Capital (NHC) is also located in the Chrysler Building. This hedge fund became independent in 2006 and with more than 20 employees now works exclusively for APG Asset Management. The office in New York plays a strategic role and the New York investment portfolio has experienced such strong growth that more than 100 colleagues are now employed here. We consciously recruit local specialists in order to profit from their local expertise and networks. The networks and personal contacts predominantly provide access to interesting investment opportunities.
APG Asset Management Asia’s office is located in the Chater House. This building is located on Hong Kong Island, the financial center of China’s Special Administrative Region (SAR). We monitor economic developments in the Far East up close from this branch office. Hong Kong was selected as a base of operation due to its strategic locations in South-East Asia which is undergoing strong economic development. The branch here forms a springboard to an economically interesting triangle: the countries located between Japan, India and Australia.
Local presence is important
The approximately 30 financial specialists who work here are primarily occupied with investments in the area of real estate, infrastructure and equities. Doing business in South-East Asia is a very different undertaking due to the different business culture alone. We therefore consciously recruit local specialists in order to profit from their local expertise and networks and are gaining access to interesting investment opportunities this way.
