I started out with a focused assignment for APG AM's Information & Technology (IT) organization but quickly found myself being involved in all sorts of interesting initiatives aimed at maturing both the IT organization itself as well as the information management processes across asset management. The diversity of the challenges faced and the space allowed for initiative and ideas quickly convinced me that this was the right place for me to grow as a professional and an individual.
People don't usually associate the pension market or asset management with IT. The stock exchange is just about the only thing that comes to mind to people whom I try to explain what I do for a living. But IT has become mission critical to asset managers over the past few years, with almost all of our core business processes relying on an elaborate and ever-evolving IT infrastructure. In many ways, IT is even changing the face of finance, via key innovations such as machine learning, artificial intelligence and block-chain. The Information Management team, of which I'm a member, contributes to these innovations within asset management by optimizing our IT service delivery, developing new and improved policies and processes and implementing our information plan principles. This results in a diverse job at the forefront of our organization's future , motivating me on a daily basis.
