We asked a few colleagues to tell you about their work and how they experience it. They also give you a glimpse of your career opportunities, so you can already taste a bit of atmosphere and to give you an idea of the possibilities at the largest financial services provider in the area of pensions. Colleagues from different disciplines explain why they work at APG.
After graduating in international business, I took a job in the HR sector. APG crossed my path after I was chatting with an ex-colleague who was working there. I learned from her that it was a good-sized company, with social responsibility as a core value. She was particularly enthusiastic about the fact that collaborating to achieve results was considered very important. I started out as HR Business Partner and progressed to become an HR specialist, and now I'm working as Improvement Business Consultant at IT.
Compared to a number of years ago, the pension world is in enormous flux, you only have a look at the newspapers. APG is progressing rapidly so is always able to anticipate changes, which often involve a significant IT component. Doing this requires adaptability and the courage to innovate so as an IT employee at APG, you are constantly challenged and stimulated. You are rewarded for showing initiative and your opinion counts, which is precisely what makes my work so enjoyable.
After obtaining my Master's Degree in Human Resource Studies at Tilburg University, I joined APG's corporate traineeship. Time flies when you're having fun! Five years on, I still enjoy working for APG, particularly in my present role as Business & Information Consultant. I saw the traineeship with APG as the perfect opportunity to explore different possibilities and it has completely lived up to my expectations. It is an excellent way of getting to know the organization.
Twelve years ago I left South Africa to come to the Netherlands with a degree in Computer Science. After five years working at different clients via temporary employment agencies, I found myself at APG. As a result of a number of large migration projects, I was able to gain a great deal of experience here in relation to workstations.
During my two-year traineeship at Asset Management I was able to familiarize myself with the different aspects of asset management within APG. I completed assignments ranging from project management to investing in equities. I recently completed this traineeship and I am now working at Emerging Markets Equities. Within the Latin America Team I am jointly responsible for the fundamental stock selection within the equities portfolio.
As a management assistant I have worked in several departments. Currently I am working with great enthusiasm in the department Corporate Communication & Branding; this corporate services department's responsibilities include APG's (Group) policy for corporate and marketing communications, its branding policy, and labor market communications. Think, for example, about press relations, public relations, issue management and public affairs, branding policy and sponsoring.
After studying business administration (specializing in change management) I selected a corporate traineeship at APG as my first job and I have definitely not regretted it. At APG you are given unique opportunities as a corporate trainee. You are free to choose or even shape your own assignments, which puts you in charge of your own development.
After I finished my Master's degree in Business Administration at Radboud University Nijmegen I had a clear desire to work in consultancy, helping companies improve their performance and business processes. As part of a multi-year traineeship at a consultancy firm, I worked at several companies in finance attempting just that. My final stop was at APG Asset Management.
After studying Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam, I started work at APG as a temporary employee in the call center. The atmosphere was immediately good at the Customer Contact Center. You work together with a number of other highly educated young people who are positioning themselves on the job market in a pleasant atmosphere to provide excellent service to the participants of our pension funds. There is plenty of room for initiative and personal development.
